Cedar Links Golf Course

Al Densmore has been hard at work with the developers at Cedar Links Golf Course to create a partial sale for a Park Land in that area.

It is feasible that Medford could build a community park on a 13-acre section of the Cear Links Golf Course. The Medford City Council has requested that the Parks and Recreation Department proceed with appraising the property, which would make the conversion to a Park Land a much easier process. The new city park would be adjacent to future homes in the proposed 113-acre Cedar Landing development.

The currents owners of Cedar Links are planning development called Cedar Landing that will feature 71 residential lots. Cedar Landing will be a mixture of single-family residences, town homes and open space. The intent is to eventually phase out the Cedar Links golf course as the development occurs.

The city lacks parks in this area, which are available in other parts of the city, according to Brian Sjothun, the director of the parks department for the city of Medford. The site being considered for the park sits along Cedar Links Drive on an elevated site, which has views on the north side of the property. Mayor Gary Wheeler also believes the proposal has merit. According to Sjothun, the city has about $500,000 in a land acquisition account that could be used toward the purchase of the park. Other possible funding sources include grant funds and donations to the Medford Park Foundation to help with the project. It is expected that the end of 2010 will complete the appraisal and negotiations. Once the City Council has approved moving forward with the project, a series of neighborhood public hearings would be held to get input on the park design.
